In our Sanctuary, we have banners hanging on the wall behind the chancel depicting our Unitarian Universalist values. Here are more details about those designs. These designs were made by a member of the congregation, Kaz Dietz.

Color as Symbols of Diversity 

Black pigment is created by combining all colors together as it is literally the sum of every hue, making it a perfect symbol of unity through diversity. 

White light contains all color wavelengths within it. When passed through a prism, it reveals the full rainbow spectrum, showing that what appears singular actually contains infinite variety. 

Together, Black and White represent the same truth from different perspectives: that wholeness emerges from the combination of all differences as a symbol of love containing all colors, all people, all forms. 

Love — Crystal Heart 

The Heart is the universal symbol of love, while Crystal reflects light in rainbow colors, representing love in its many forms and reflecting the light within everyone. 

Equity — Hands & Blood 

Hands represent fairness and equal treatment, reaching out to others regardless of differences. 

Blood, like water, flows responsively to fill gaps and meet immediate needs wherever they exist, symbolizing adaptive support.

Interdependence — Sun & Moon 

The Sun and Moon exist as two halves of a whole, creating balance through their cyclical relationship. They rely on each other to define day and night, light and shadow, and the rhythm of time itself.

Justice — Scale & Sunflower 

Scales represent fairness and righteousness in the pursuit of what is right. 

Sunflowers track the sun across the sky, symbolizing the active pursuit of justice and truth. 

They also heal contaminated soil, representing restorative justice and renewal. 

Generosity — Trees & Earth 

Trees provide shelter, oxygen, and resources without expecting anything in return. 

Earth is our home, offering abundant resources and supporting entire ecosystems. 

Both symbolize how generosity creates ripples that support many lives.

Pluralism — Constellation Orion 

Constellations represent diversity and multiple perspectives. Stars within a constellation may be vastly different distances from Earth, yet they align from our perspective. 

Orion is the most widely recognized 

constellation around the world, making it a fitting symbol for unity in diversity.

Transformation — Butterfly 

The Butterfly represents metamorphosis, growth, and the profound change that comes from embracing transformation.
