Love is not a feeling.

Love is an action.

In the spiritual development course I am taking, someone said ‘love is not a feeling, love is an action’. We are all familiar with the Bible quote from 1 Corinthians 13 ,‘love is patient, love is kind, it does not boast…’.  I’ve heard that dozens of times in my life, but ‘love is an ACTION’, struck me differently.

The world is filled with too many of us who are inclined to indicate our love with an announcement or declaration. True love is a process. True love requires personal action. Love must be continuing to be real. Love takes time.

Love is not always a fun or an easy action like buying a present or making a cake.  Love at times may test your patience. Love is showing up, even when it’s difficult, and working through challenging conversations.  Love is embracing our differences even when they make us uncomfortable.  Love is remembering to be in covenant.

As we approach Valentine’s Day, the day that is filled with hearts and balloons decorated with the word ‘love’ in elaborate script’, let’s remember to show each other love.
