Fall Reparations Forum 2023

Why then, is New Jersey one of the most segregated states in the nation when it comes to schools and housing? Why is the wealth gap among races so wide? Our speakers were Dr. Walter Greason, who was a speaker with us earlier this year,  and Jean-Pierre Brutus, Senior Counsel at the New Jersey Institute of Social Justice.

‘DNA of Racism: Jim Crow in NJ’ was held on February 2, 2023. The  Reparations Task Force invited Dr. Walter Greason of Macalester College to lead a discussion about how the embedded racism that allowed New Jersey to be considered the Slave State of the North continued to be expressed during Reconstruction and Jim Crow through racial housing covenants, the acceptance of the Ku Klux Klan, and other displays of racism.
