Paula’s Perspective – May 9, 2023

It is with mixed emotions I share this news. I hope you all know how much I have loved working for and serving this congregation for the past 7 years. But I have to tell you that my last day at UUCCH will be July 23.

I have accepted the position of Director of Lifespan Religious Education with the UU Community of Charlotte (also called UUCC, in Charlotte, NC). UUCC is a large congregation with over 500 members, and they wanted a person to re-envision their lifespan programs, experiment with them with new ways of learning, and bring creativity and innovation to their congregation. I am excited that they have chosen me to be this person.

Additionally, I think the move back South will be good for me and my family. I lived in Charlotte when I was younger and loved it so much there. I hope this shift will be a healthy move for my family, who have never really found their place here in New Jersey.

I want you to know that this is bittersweet for me. I care deeply for UUCCH! I have always felt appreciated for my creativity and respected for my professional skill. The people here have offered me love and support, and a willingness to join me on a journey through change. I have seen great strides toward growth in UUCCH since I’ve been here. And I am confident that UUCCH will find a qualified, enthusiastic, and energetic religious educator who can continue to build on what we’ve created together.

Though I know this is the right move for me and my family at this time, it doesn’t mean it will be easy. I will miss you terribly, and I know I will have to grieve our separation. I am glad that we have a bit of time before I leave, so I can help with the transition and set things up for my successor to succeed. But also, so that we have some time together to both celebrate and fully say our goodbyes. I love you all bunches!
