Board Reflection for Sunday, January 15, 2023

Ken Ewan, UUCCH Board of Trustees

As you may have seen in this week’s Newsgram and heard from our Board President’s announcement last week, the Board’s offering of the Listening Circles will certainly afford us all the opportunity to meet “officially” and in ways we don’t or can’t do on an average Sunday morning- also to meet as a congregation on the whole, not only in smaller groups. I use the word “officially” because it brings us together in an “organized” and purposeful way to discuss and plan for the future of our ministry. These facilitated meetings (Listening Circles) will give us the chance to write down your ideas and thoughts in order to review and clarify them throughout the process and beyond. Our ideas are meant to be expressed and shared freely and openly.

At this point in time, I think we all have a pretty good understanding of what Unitarian Universalism is all about- our Principles, our Sources. But the larger structures of “ministry” and organizational guidance are crucial to our sustenance both as a church, UUCCH, and as an organization in the community at large. That is why we need to talk about and plan for our future with a new minister. I am sure you have seen and experienced the valuable work all around you- the people and committees, the projects, the ideas, the Sunday and special services, thoughtful ministry, and so on.

I am proud to have been a participant in the church- first as a staff member as Music Director,  then as a member of the congregation, and now as an elected member of the Board of Trustees. In each case I was given the opportunity to share and express my ideas and experiences, to be a contributing part of this community’s life and growth. YOU CAN TOO.

So I remind you again….we need to talk. Join a Listening Circle. Details can be found in the Newsgram.
