As a sub-team of the Property Committee, the Arboretum Work Group works tirelessly, often in the sun and the heat, to care for UUCCH’s Arboretum, an accredited, 17-acre site that preserves open space and provides a beautiful horticultural spot for the enjoyment of church members and the public.
Over the past year, the ArbWG has restored areas of the Arboretum by clearing overgrowth and invasive plants and by weeding around trees and shrubs. In addition to inventorying the Arboretum’s existing specimens, members of the ArbWG help maintain the gardens surrounding the church. Two new garden areas were designated this past year (Condenser Garden and Sanctuary Front), and the Pollinator Garden was expanded to accommodate more native pollinator plants.
The BOT is grateful to the ArbWG’s volunteers for keeping our church grounds beautiful and accessible in a way that also supports UUCCH’s commitment to environmental stewardship. We hope you’ll show appreciation for their efforts by visiting the Arboretum, which is open to the public from dawn to dusk. The ArbWG also has an illustrated Arboretum brochure and a display currently in the Gallery outside Fellowship Hall, with color photographs and a map highlighting several plantings on the grounds.
