Vision Loss Peer Support Group Forming

Are you or someone close to you experiencing vision loss from age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma or some other eye condition? If so, you’re in good company — age-related macular degeneration is the leading cause of vision loss in people age 65 and older.

How would you like to share your experiences and learn to live the same kind of life you’ve enjoyed just by using different tools and techniques while gaining confidence from the support of others?

A support group at UUCCH is being formed for anyone who would like to share, care and listen. The group will be co-led by longtime UUCCH member Heidi B. and newcomer Annemarie C.

The meetings will be conducted via Zoom. And the meetings are intended to provide support and practical advice and not intended for medical diagnoses, treatment or the like.

While Heidi is a familiar presence at UUCCH, Annemarie has been exploring UU’ism for the past 15 months. She has hereditary macular degeneration and continues to experience lifelong changes in vision. She has formed and coordinated peer support groups since the 1980’s and is active in the National Federation of the Blind of New Jersey, a civil rights and advocacy group with the motto: “Learn to live the life you want — nobody can stop you.”

The time and frequency of the group meetings will be determined based on input from those interested in participating. For more information and to register please contact Heidi (see her info in the Newsgram or email the Administrator to be put in touch with her).
