Property

Our beautiful facilities and grounds need constant tender loving care.  Our  Property Commitee makes sure everything is maintained and in working order, inside and out.  Whether it be mowing the lawn in warm weather or shoveling the walks in snow, a leaky pipe or a permit application, the Property Committee takes care of it.

Contact the Property Commitee Chair if you like to roll up your sleeves and get involved.

Grounds and Landscaping

One of the great pleasures of UUCCH is our 17 acres of grounds.  The site includes an arboretum with a variety of rare tree species, and nine gardens.  The rotunda, the site of the old circular church which is behind the current church, serves as a great place for outdoor activities.  A solar array added in 2011 significantly lowered our carbon footprint as well as our electrical bill; yet we were able to only lose a few pines and keep a very old weeping Cherry Tree near Kings Highway. A labyrinth is being planned. There are also over 100 burial sites where the ashes of loved-ones are kept.

The Garden Club

Our gardens include a 150' expanse of roses, a rock garden, the patio garden, the Unitarian House garden, the Children's Garden, the Buddhist Garden, the Southern and the Lower East gardens and a grove in the woods, the Bell Garden.  Tending the gardens and grounds is a very satisfying spiritual practice, as well as a much needed way of helping the church. Currently two of the gardens need major refurbishment.  We hope to plant a vegetable garden in the spring of 2013.
