Jo Green, Minister in Residence

Ms. Jo Green received her Master of Divinity Degree from Starr King School for the Ministry in Berkeley, CA after a professional career extending over 30 years.  After experience as a union negotiator and grievance handler, her passion for social justice naturally culminated in her calling to Unitarian Universalist ministry.  She decided to make a career move in middle age to acquire her degree and pursue ordination.  Her previous degrees are a Bachelor of Arts in Art and a Master of Science in Counseling Education.

Past professions have enhanced differing skills that have all led to ministry.  Her teaching and counseling skills have been honed to become an asset as a minister and her art background has given her creative skills necessary in problem solving.  She was a past business owner and pro bono mediator which has proven to be essential in the art of ministry.  And her past experience in acting and singing was a creative outlet that gave her much joy.

Her past ministerial related experience includes Chaplaincy at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Berkeley and Oakland, CA, and work at a major Southern California University Medical Center.  With her union work and mediation work she experienced the unfairness and inequity firsthand that is such a strong value that guided her closer to ministry.  What had been missing in her previous career held the bits and pieces of her calling to ministry.
