FAQ about Pledging

Why make a financial commitment for next year?
• This church – our programs, buildings and grounds – belongs to us. About 70% of our financial resources come directly from member contributions. In order to develop a solid budget for next year, the church leadership needs a commitment of your charitable giving. More importantly, this commitment is a concrete expression of your connection to this church community. If you cherish and believe in UUCCH and its mission, we encourage you to make a generous financial commitment.
What is the money used for?
• The budget reflects what our congregation hopes to achieve. It includes everything you see at church and some things you don’t see – staff salaries, maintenance of our buildings and grounds, music, RE, social justice programs, and more. Your support also strengthens our UU voice in the wider community. Please see the charts below for more information.

Is there a right amount for each member?
• We celebrate diversity. That includes diversity in economic status, and we recognize that everyone cannot give equally. Your giving communicates and demonstrates your relationship to this spiritual home, and is an expression of your life circumstances, hopes, dreams and ideals. Please consult the financial commitment table from the UUA on the other side of this form for suggested giving levels.
How do we compare with other denominations?
• UUs generally give less to their church than other denominations (Lutherans give 44% more, and Episcopalians contribute 57% more to their churches than UUs). A traditional religious tithe is 10%.
Can I give electronically?
• Yes, we encourage electronic giving. It is convenient for members, it provides a steady predictable income for UUCCH, and it is good for the earth (no more paper checks).
What types of electronic giving are available?
• Direct Debit Giving. Automatically transfer funds from your bank account to the church’s account. This is also known as Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), automatic payment, or simply, ACH.
• Credit & Debit Card Giving. Automatically charges your credit or debit card on a predetermined schedule of your choosing. All major cards accepted.
How is the transaction processed?
• To process electronic donations, UUCCH uses Vanco Services, LLC - an established and highly-regarded company. Vanco processes contributions for more than 10,000 churches and non-profit organizations.
How can I sign up for electronic giving?
• You can do this all online. Go to www.uucch.org, then click on the "Giving" page, then click the Donate button. Or you can use the pledge form to request paper forms to be sent to you.
What if I have more questions about Stewardship?
• Check out the "Giving" page of the UUCCH website (www.uucch.org) for more detailed information, or contact any member of the Stewardship Committee (Ed Fox, Ken Slight, Nancy Ashton, Lucie Lenore, Chuck O'Neil and Kay Smith.)
