Cherry Hill Food & Outreach Council
Cherry Hill Food Pantry
Collecting food every 4th Sunday morning has been a regular yearlong activity at UUCCH.
The Cherry Hill Food and Outreach Council (from which the Cherry Hill Food Pantry was formed) began in May, 2006.
The 11 Cherry Hill congregations that form the foundation of the Cherry Hill Food Pantry work together to provide food and volunteers to staff the pantry on a rotating basis.
Over 500 families utilize the services of the Cherry Hill Food Pantry every month.
On October 13, 2015 the Cherry Hill Food Pantry (CHFOC) moved from a small 900 square foot house on Chapel Avenue to a 4,100 square foot storefront located at 1463 Brace Road, near Rte 561 & Tutti Toscani. The food pantry currently serves 850 families and provides over 400,000 pounds of food yearly.
At the new location, clients now shop and select what they want from 30 different categories of food items. The grocery store style shopping experience replaces the old system of grocery items prepackaged for the clients by volunteers. Clients are now paired with volunteers who guide them on their way through the aisles and accompany them to their cars where they assist them in loading the groceries into their vehicles.
Our volunteer nurses check blood pressures & blood sugar.
Any non-perishable food is acceptable but it must be new and in unopened cans or boxes. Canned vegetables, peanut butter, jelly, pasta and pasta sauce, cereal, pancake mix, syrup, detergent and canned meats are typical donations. We are also very happy to have scouts or schools hold food drives for us. Some generous folks even request food donations at their birthdays, weddings & other events.
We are a non-profit agency of The Food Bank of SJ & purchase federal & other food from them & also from Philabundance. Many times, we must purchase food from supermarkets. Financial donations to CHFOC may be sent to PO Box 2636, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034.
