Cherry Hill Food & Outreach Council
Cherry Hill Food Pantry
Collecting food every 4th Sunday morning has been a regular yearlong activity at UUCCH.
The donations are delivered to the Cherry Hill Food Pantry (CHFOC) housed in St Michael Lutheran Church parish house located at 102 Chapel Ave, near Kings Hwy. The Cherry Hill Food Pantry began in May 2006 with six local churches serving 30 families. We were one of those churches. We now serve approx 600 families monthly. Approximately 30% of Cherry Hill Food Pantry clients are from Camden, 40% from the Cherry Hill area, and the rest from a variety of local towns.
We are a group of 12 Religious congregations and community groups who volunteer time and energy--and donate food and money--to support our mission of supplying groceries and related social services to needy families in Cherry Hill and its surrounding communities. Our volunteer nurses check blood pressures and blood sugar.
Any non-perishable food is acceptable, but it must be new and in unopened cans or boxes. Canned vegetables, peanut butter, jelly, pasta and pasta sauce, cereal and canned meats are typical donations. We are also very happy to have scouts or schools hold food drives for us. Some generous folks even request food donations at their birthdays, weddings, and other events.
We are a non-profit agency of The Food Bank of South Jersey, and purchase federal & other food from them and also from Philabundance. Many times, we must purchase food from supermarkets. Financial donations to CHFOC may be sent to PO Box 2636, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034.
